In Need of Urgent Donations
If you are a follower of the Facebook page for Kula Spirit, Spacim Pikinini - PNG Inc, an International Project of the Rotary Club of Salamander Bay, you will be aware of the great work undertaken by Wendy Stein, OAM, PHF, PP and her crew as they travel around the outlying areas and islands of the Milne Bay Province, PNG.  If not please visit their  Facebook  page (and “Like” and “Share”) and learn more of their activities.
Unfortunately, that work has been unexpectedly interrupted by a more immediate need.
Despite regular maintenance of the Kula Spirit, a blown water pump has resulted in the need to fully rebuild the motor. Not an inexpensive task. As I am sure you would appreciate, having a safe and reliable boat in these waters is critical, to its crew, guest workers, patients and Wendy.
The motor rebuild will cost in the vicinity of AUD25-30,000 - the final cost is not yet known as work continues and parts arrive.
The Kula Spirit team and Wendy seek your help. The  attached document  provides an overview of the team’s current activities. We ask that you share this funding request with the Clubs in your District in anticipation that they are able to contribute. Club and personal tax deductible donations can be made via the Rotary RAWCS website at, every donation, no matter how small, will help get the Kula Sprit back in the water and doing what she is there to do, helping the people of PNG. Every dollar raised will go directly to the project,
Also, help us to spread the word by “Liking” and “Sharing” their Facebook page. Thank you.

Would You Survive?
Hey Rotarians
What do you think your chances are of surviving a sudden, out of hospital cardiac arrest?
Would you want to rely on a bystander to perform CPR?
If I told you you had a 20% chance of survival would you want to work to improve that statistic?
If you knew of something which would considerably increase your chances of survival would you want someone to use it?
Ever heard of defribrillators?
Would you like to learn how to use one?
Would your club like to participate in a short training sessions (20-30 mins)  free of charge as part of your regular meeting?
Then contact David Glasspool on 0488 448 178 or email
David is  a Paramedic of 22 years with SA Ambulance Service (SAAS) and is State Coordinator of an exciting project called Community CPR-30 approved by Health SA, with the principal goal of improving survivability of persons who experience an out of hospital, sudden cardiac arrest.
If you would like more information contact David directly or District 9520 Community Service Director, Penni Hamilton-Smith on 0488 084 698 or email
